SCA Sport Kabuto, documentation and justification
Hachi-
Zunari, "head shaped", was the obvious choice to use for a SCA sport helm. The round top would allow shots to slide off the top and sides. The top is one piece instead of three. This is to be more structurally sound than the usual three plates used for kabuto.
Shikoro-
Ichimai-jikoro, single lame shikoro, is used to further reduce the chance that shots land on the helmet. It also reduces the overall weight to have one lame. Multiple lames overlap and cause unnecessary weight. I decided to add lacing to the shikoro to give it the look of a more familiar multi-lame kabuto.
Men Yoroi-
Somen, full face armor, was the only choice for the SCA. In order to protect the whole face, a somen is required. I chose bar grills instead of a molded face plate to honor the roots of the SCA. Bar grills have been used from the beginning of the Society. The bars on this helm are in the shape of a face including the nose as is the tradition with menpo and somen.
